Hunza Valley
Let us experience the convergence of the
highest mountain ranges of the world: Karakoram, Himalayas and Hindu
Kush as we travel along the Karakoram Highway, reputed as the 8th
wonder of the world, through the stunning, deep gorges of the Indus:
the Lion River. Hunza is like a plank of paradise on earth. Drive
on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) via the beautiful lush green valleys
of Mansehra District. The historical and political significance of
the highway is manifold. It was a joint project between Pakistan and
China and took 20 years to complete.
Hunza is an ideal place for mountaineering, trekking and hiking. Hunza genuinely offers an experience of a lifetime! Situated at an elevation of 2,438 meters, Hunza Valley's tourist season peaks from May to October. Most parts of Hunza offer an awe-inspiring view of Rakaposhi (7,788 meters). The snows of Rakaposhi glitter in the moonlight, producing an atmosphere of ethereal magnetism.
Skardu / Baltistan
Come to watch the 8th wonder of the world,
the Karakoram Highway along the Indus River and stay stunned at the
place where the three highest mountain ranges of the world meet -
Karakoram, Himalayas & Hindukush.
Baltistan is the land of most friendly, hospitable and peace loving
people. The capital of Baltistan is Skardu which is perched at an
elevation of 2286m (7620ft). Skardu is set in a landscape of towering
mountains, deep gorges, resounding waterfalls and calm, deep lakes.
Skardu is the district headquarters of Baltistan On the banks of the
mighty river Indus.
The entire region is known as mountaineer's paradise. Nowhere else can one find such a large collection of lofty peaks including K-2, which at 8611m (28703ft) is rated as the second highest mountain in the world. Huge glaciers such as Baltoro, Biafo and Siachen, some of the largest in the world outside the polar region, rest in 16283 sq km (10114 sq mile) area of the world. In this district, there are five main valleys and many beautiful lakes like Satpara and Kachura, surrounded by snow-covered mountains.
Chitral (Kalash Valley)
Lying in the midst of the Hindukush Range,
it is one of the world's most beautiful regions. Chitral offers enchanting
scenery in the shadow of the majestic Trich Mir, at 7708m, which is
the highest peak of the Hindukush Range. On arriving at Chitral town,
we come across people from all over Afghanistan and North Pakistan.
Another splendor is traversing through Kalash Valley the home of the
Kalash people. As per mythology, they are descendants of four Greek
soldiers of Alexander's army.
The "Kalash Country" is spread over three valleys: Bomburet, Birir and Rambur. Kalash have fascinated anthropologists and historians by their obscure origins, colorful festivals, curious customs & rituals. Local handicrafts are also famous & one of the attraction for the tourists.
Fairy Meadows
the heart of exotic North Pakistan, Fairy
Meadows is located at the base of Nanga Parbat, which, at 8126 m,
is the 9th highest mountain in the world and second in Pakistan after
K2.
Nanga Parbat is also called the Killer Mountain and locals call it
Daimoryi, which is the end of Himalaya. The meadows are lush green
alpine pastures situated in the middle of a pine forest at an altitude
of 3,306 m. The meadows have been a thrilling destination for polo
lovers, spending couple of days here, having a touch of real adventure.
Fairy Meadows has been a source of enchantment since long for back packers, climbers, wildlife researchers, photographers, painters & geologists, besides nature lovers. The pine forests skirting Fairy Meadows are perhaps one of the virgin forests in the north of Pakistan, and are home to a number of species of birds and wildlife. The site overlooks the Raikot Glacier and provides a majestic view of the North Face of Nanga Parbat, commonly known as the Raikot Face.
Shandur Polo Festivial
Polo is an equestrian sport with its origin
embedded in Central Asia dating back to 6th century BC. At first it
was a training game for cavalry units for the King's guards or other
elite Passion for Polo will be the highest on the world's highest
Polo ground.
Shandur invites visitors to experience a traditional polo tournament between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit during the 2nd week of July. The tournament is held on Shandur Pass, the highest polo ground in the world at 3,700 meters. The festival also includes traditional music and dancing and a camping village is set up.
Gilgit, Chitral and Skardu have always played the game of polo closest
to its original form. In the past, local Rajas, Mirs and Mehtars were
the patrons of the game. At times, more than 50% of the annual budget
of their principalities would be spent on supporting the game.
The Shandur Pass lies almost midway between Chitral and Gilgit on
a jeep road, traveling on which, is adventurous, to say the least.
The distance from either side is 170 kms.
It is a place unique and exotic in itself, surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world. The event marks the annual rivalry between the polo teams of Gilgit and Chitral. The Polo tournament the nearby streams and lakes and a festival of folk dances and music of the Northern Pakistan.
Kaghan
The narrow green Kaghan Valley is one of
the most beautiful in Pakistan and reminiscent of the alpine scenery
of Europe. There are many hill stations in this beautiful valley.
Drive through Balakot, the gateway to the Kaghan Valley, which is
about four hours drive from Islamabad. The town Balakot is a little
way up the Kunhar River.. After stopping in Balakot for some time
we continue our drive towards Kawai, 24 kilometers from Balakot, a
track leads off to the right and climbs steeply up to the plateau
of Shogran from Kawai. At Kawai we leave the main road going to the
Kaghan & Naran and turn on this track going to Shogran.
As we travel through Kaghan, we pass hamlets with stone and wood homes
surrounded by rice fields. We visit Saiful-Maluk Lake, where the peak
of Malka Parbat (5390 m) is mirrored in the deep blue waters. This
is an ideal area for trekking and trout fishing and is a paradise
for the botanist .
Swat Valley
The Swat Valley is an enchanting land of magnificent scenic beauty; a lush green fertile valley, snow capped mountains, fruit laden orchards, and flower covered slopes washed by the smooth flowing Swat River. The Swat Valley is divided into three-parts, Lower Swat, Center Swat and Upper Swat. Excursions through Swat Valley should include visit to places such as Saidu-Shariff, Madyan, Bahrain, and Kalam and of course the shopping town of Mingora.
The myriad of streams and torrents, which tumble down into the embrace of the river, make trout fishing a common spot at Kalam and all along the Swat Valley
Murree & Galliat
The lush green hill station of Murree is
the first choice for a weekend's outing from Islamabad and Lahore.
Murree is Pakistan's leading hill resort at 7250 feet above sea level,
the climate here is cool in summers and very cold in winters with
heavy snowfall. Murree is situated at an altitude of 2300 m above
sea level. The scenic journey takes 6 hours from Lahore. From the
main street of the town a vast panorama of forest clad ridges and
majestic pines on thickly wooded slopes is a feast for the eyes.
The town of Murree spreads over an area of 5 kilometers, in between Pindi & Kashmir points. Between the two superb scenic viewpoints lies the famous Mall Road of Murree, shopping center for all the visitors. Excursion to Bhurban, Horse riding, Chair lift ride and strolling on paved trails are other activities to do when you are in Murree.
Lahore
Lahore is truly called as the heart of the
country and the historical monuments and cultural extravaganza add
real colors to its serene beauty and unending charm. Minar-e-Pakistan,
Badshahi Mosque and Shalimar Gardens are synonymous with the word
Lahore. Tomb of Jahangir, Noor Jahan and Badshahi Mosque have magnificent
architecture, as do many other buildings across Lahore.
A guided tour of Daata Sahib, Lahore Fort, Badshahi Masjid, Delhi
Gate, Wazir Khan Mosque & Shalimar Garden will add an unforgettable
experience.
Devotees throng at the shrine of the Sufi saint, Daâta Hajveri, who
came here in the 11th century. The landmarks of Lahore with grandeur
of the historic Baâdshahi mosque, the captivating Lahore Fort, are
the testimony of the mosaic of Moghul architecture.
Some 35km from the central town is Wagha, border between India & Pakistan. Arrive at the border and watch the famous flag ceremony at the border that marks the closing of the border just before sunset.
Some 40km from Lahore is the city of Sheikhupura. The city was built
by Mughal emperor Jehangir who used to come here for hunting. He built
a Fort for him self in Sheikhupura and hunting pavilion in the center
of an artificial lake and tower "Hiran Minar" in memory of his pet
deer.
First drive for about 70 km to head baloki over river Ravi. This beautiful scenic spot at the banks of Ravi with an old British times rest.
Multan
Multan the "City of Saints" and center of
Islamic Architecture & Art. This region has given birth to many famous
saints such as Shah Rukne - Alam, Baha-ud-din Zakriya, Shah Shams
Tabrez and many others who served the Islamic education with great
devotion.
The people have soft nature and they speak Seraiki language. The literature of Seraiki language is very rich and has a spiritual depth in it. The architecture of the shrines is also worth watching. The mirror work of Multan has spread all over the country and is mostly used to decorate mosque and Shrines. Moreover the handicrafts such as tile work, camel skin lamps - decorations, carpet weaving and sweets are famous.
Peshawar
Peshawar is Capital of North West Frontier
Province and land of the Pathan tribes. Peshawar is a Sanskrit word
and its means "City of Flower". Peshawar is Gateway for Central Asian
& European states to South Asia and geographically it is a very
important city. In Peshawar you will have chance to see the bright
culture of the Pahktoons. The streets of old city of Peshawar are
still reflecting the history of the land. In the ancient time Peshawar
was the part of Gandhara civilization, which was situated at West
bank of the Indus River, including Charsada, Takht-e-Bhai and entire
Swat valley. It would be very informative for any tourist to visit
Peshawar Museum, which has plenty of sculptures of Buddha.
The oldest mosque of Peshawar is Mohabbat Khan, which is situated in old bazaar, and it is a true symbol of Mughal art. In fact the mosque is a reflection of Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore. The visit of Khyber Pass will allow you to see the life of tribal people, where they live in their own traditional way of life and have a glimpse of the largest tribal society in the world.
